Content Usage Guidelines

We’re grateful you’re reading our Content Usage Guidelines because it probably means you’re keen to share our work, and care to know what appropriate use of our content is.

What content can you use?

  • You can share Planet Esoterica’s articles on your social media channels or link to our site, of course. In fact, it’s seriously appreciated! Our growth relies on people spreading the word and we want as many people as possible to learn more about the world through our work.

  • Photographs clearly marked with a Creative Commons license are free to use. But, you must attribute the photographer and not Planet Esoterica. If you have any doubts, use the same attribution text as us. It usually looks something like this: “Photo by INSERT PHOTOGRAPHER’S NAME is licensed with CC BY 3.0. To view a copy of this license, visit https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0”. If you want to find more Creative Commons imagery, visit their website at https://search.creativecommons.org/.

  • Photographs sourced from a free stock photography website, such as Pixabay and Unsplash, are OK to use, provided you credit their name and not ours. However, we recommend you download photos directly from their sites and not Planet Esoterica’s. Why? Because it boosts the photographer’s popularity on the platform and you’re likely to find more of their awesome imagery on these websites.

  • Satellite photographs from NASA are free to use. You must attribute them and not Planet Esoterica.

  • Provided you honour the Content Attribution Policy below, you can directly quote up to 75 words of our website text. This applies online and in print, and is based on 75 words per post or chapter. Our main reason for requesting this is to avoid duplicate content being posted elsewhere online. In case you don’t know, duplicate content will hurt your SEO, so you have little to gain by using large chunks of our written content.

What content am I not allowed to use?

  • You cannot use or download any stock photography on our website, unless it’s from NASA, Creative Commons, Pixabay or Unsplash. Why? Because all other photography on our site is: (a) something we’ve purchased ourselves or (b) given to us directly by a photographer. If you’re after your own stock photography, we suggest you contact photographers directly or download imagery from a stock site such as https://www.123RF.com.

  • You cannot use or download any Google satellite imagery or screenshots from our website. We do not own any rights to these, so you will need to acquire your own imagery directly from Google Maps or Google Earth Pro.

  • Do not claim our content as your original idea. For example, you can’t take one of our articles and pretend it’s yours by publishing it on your own channel(s). If you want to share our content, please do so via our website URL.

  • You are not allowed to republish our text-based content in full. You must use 75 words or less.

  • You are not allowed to resell, repackage, or repurpose any part of our website and its text-based or visual content.

Our Content Attribution Policy

If you cite any text-based content from us (as per the above guidelines) you must do the following:

  • State Planet Esoterica as the source and use quotation marks where applicable.
  • Provide a URL link to whatever you’re referring to on our website.

Conducting research is a core part of Planet Esoterica’s work. So, if you violate the above, we will find you and take action.
